Welcome to Human 2.0. Glad to know you are interested in investing in your health and in learning more about injury prevention, preventative medicine, movement mastery, and functional and sustainable fitness training.

If you’ve never trained with us before, it can be a little intimidating, working through exercises you’ve possibly never done, and training in ways that seem contrary to other fitness methods. We aren’t like most other places, that’s for sure. Thus, in an effort to make you feel more comfortable, we’ve put together a list of resources that we think make a good introduction to what we do.

One place to start is with our 30 Day MOVEMENT CHALLENGE – this is a playlist of 30 days of exercise sessions, each one only about 10 minutes in length. Please note that these videos are NOT meant to be full workouts. They are just meant to introduce you to some of our basic movements and exercises, and to get you active at any point throughout the day. If you work through these, you will definitely get a sense for what we are all about!

We’ve also put together a short 20 minute mobility and strength WORKOUT FOR BEGINNERS just for you – this is taught by Coach Dan Jones! Pair this with a full body stretch, and you have a great full body workout combination!

At Human 2.0, we also love primal movement. We often use it in our warm-ups, and sometimes for conditioning or just throughout our workouts as well. Crawling, hopping, squatting, rotating, balancing, hanging, and just using your body in a variety of ways to locomote is not only essential for the health of the human body, it’s fun too. In this video led by Coach Emma Bissonnette, she reviews a few of the fundamental primal movements that we do. Give them a try!

Another thing we do at our gym is focus on mobility and flexibility training much more than most other places. We feel that moving through a full range of motion in all the joints with strength is one of the best ways to prevent injury.

For example, your thirty minute run might be good for your heart – and we do cardio too – but if you don’t also focus equally on movement of the joints and adaptability of the muscles, when you are forced into an awkward position, you will run into problems. Five to ten minutes at the end of a class isn’t enough either. Here is a basic routine with Coach Dan Jones that you can follow along with and learn some of the basic stretches and mobility exercises that we might incorporate into our classes.

Here are a few other routines shown by Coach Dan that involving training strength and mobility for hip and knee health. By doing these, you will learn a few more of our favourite exercises!

Finally, here are some exercise tutorials for some of the basics and other movements we tend to do often. Watch and/or follow along to get a sense for how we train.
